Born from obsession and built to hand down.

Since 1980 Steffen Brothers has invested thousands of hours in testing materials and zeroing in on the mathematical tapers, spigoted ferrules, and other signature features that drive performance. We build each rod by hand in the U.S. with American-made fiberglass, graphite, and components.

Blanks hand-rolled and built in USA. Proprietary Steffen Bros Tapers, including unique ferrule tech. Original Uni S glass and Modern Classic graphite models available.

An Idea is sparked

From experimental graphite tennis racquets to fly rods! Mark Steffen began designing graphite rod layups. Testing his ideas across the mountain west, and eventually measuring up his prototypes in the final frontier... Alaska.

A new beginning

1980. The official launch of Steffen Brothers fly rods. Mark and Tim Steffen began taking custom orders and continued to evolve there taper designs. There unique build style and hand rolled blanks enabled them to customize for length and WT quickly for there growing following.

Cult Originals

Glass is not dead

After experimenting with high modulus graphits and various e-glasses. Mark Steffen uncovered unique military grade uni-s glass. This was the begining of the cult chestnut colored glass blanks!

A New Chapter

Modern Classics

Mark & Tim retire, and Shane Gray carries the torch forward! The Steffen Brothers brand means many things to many anglers. Carrying the torch forward, means that we will continue to produce amazing fishing gear that is earnest, noteworthy, and fun! From the very first launch day in 1980, to now, Shane and Andy, are dedicated to keep a pioneering spirit of this American-made brand alive.
